Tree Project / Greenbelt Forestry Plan
For years many of our greenbelt trees have had large painted "X's" on them and homeowners have questioned whether they were safe. At the beginning of 2012 the Board contracted with Green River Community College (GRCC) for a tree inventory and wellness plan. What we learned was shocking. Many of our trees, many more than were originally "x'd" were dead, dying, or risking property. We were encouraged to remove these trees as soon as possible in order to prevent property damage and to improve the wellness of our greenbelts. The challenge was money. Tree felling is expensive, so we had to plan. This year we finally began taking down trees by using a logger suggested by our GRCC partners. The biggest visual indication was the removal of all the trees near the clubhouse. We have full intentions of replanting this area once we are able to ascertain what trees will not be susceptible to the laminated root rot that is a significant problem in our greenbelts. Below are links to the documents we have to back up this plan. Please note that we have redacted signatures and personal information to protect our volunteers and the student supporters. We will post more as we are able to. As always you are welcome to email us with questions, or better yet, come talk to us at an upcoming meeting. All meetings are listed on the community calendar. We hope to see you soon!
